Enhanced Protection Measures for Visiting Team

2 min read

Pakistan has strengthened security arrangements for the Sri Lankan cricket team after a suicide blast outside a judicial complex in Islamabad killed 12 people and injured many others on November 12, 2025. The attack has raised fresh concerns about militant activities linked to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Authorities are determined to avoid any repeat of the 2009 Lahore attack on the Sri Lankan team bus, which halted international cricket in Pakistan for nearly ten years. PCB Chairman and Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi personally met the visiting squad and the Sri Lankan High Commissioner to reassure them of foolproof security. Pakistan Army personnel and paramilitary Rangers have been deployed for protection during the limited-overs series. The government blames TTP for recent violence and accuses Afghanistan's Taliban regime of allowing militants to operate from its territory.

Enhanced Protection Measures for Visiting Team

Multiple security measures have been implemented around the team's hotel, training grounds, and match venues. These include dedicated escorts, surveillance teams, and restricted movement zones. Mohsin Naqvi, who serves as both PCB Chairman and Federal Interior Minister, met the Sri Lankan squad and High Commissioner Admiral (Retd) Fred Seneviratne to assure them of complete safety. The team is being treated as state guests with every possible precaution in place. Pakistan Army personnel and paramilitary Rangers have been specially deployed to oversee security throughout the series. Federal Information Minister Ata Tarar confirmed that quick action by security forces also prevented another tragedy at Wana Cadet College, where over 300 students were safely evacuated following a foiled terrorist attack.
