CSK Need More Spinners and Batters, Says Chopra

2 min read

Former India opener Aakash Chopra has shared his views on Chennai Super Kings' squad needs ahead of the IPL 2026 mini auction, scheduled for December 15. With Ravichandran Ashwin having retired from international cricket, Chopra believes CSK must strengthen their spin bowling options. He suggested that relying solely on Ravindra Jadeja and Noor Ahmad will not be sufficient for the upcoming season. The cricketer-turned-commentator also emphasized the need for additional batting depth, particularly if the franchise decides to release Devon Conway. Chopra noted that while Ruturaj Gaikwad's return as captain and opener is settled, the team requires more specialist batters in their lineup. He also pointed out that CSK might benefit from adding fast bowlers despite having several options already. The five-time champions face important decisions regarding their overseas slots and overall balance.

CSK Need More Spinners and Batters, Says Chopra

Chopra stressed that CSK cannot manage with only Ravindra Jadeja and Noor Ahmad in the spin department following Ashwin's retirement. He recommended adding at least one more spinner to fill the void. Regarding fast bowling, Chopra observed that Matheesha Pathirana's value has dipped slightly while Khaleel Ahmed's has risen. Despite having Anshul Kamboj, Nathan Ellis, and Mukesh Choudhary, he suggested adding more pace options. On the batting front, if players like Rahul Tripathi, Vijay Shankar, and Devon Conway are released, CSK will need one or two quality batters, including overseas options. Chopra noted that among their foreign recruits, only Rachin Ravindra can bat properly, making additional batting reinforcements essential.
