Former Indian cricketer Parthiv Patel has shared his thoughts on India's likely playing eleven for the opening Test against South Africa, scheduled to begin on November 14. While most positions appear settled, Patel highlighted a potential selection challenge for the number six spot. He proposed an opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul, followed by Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill, and the returning Rishabh Pant at number five. The former wicketkeeper-batter suggested three spinners—Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, and Kuldeep Yadav—alongside two pace bowlers, Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah. However, Patel emphasized that India faces a crucial decision between selecting Nitish Kumar Reddy or Dhruv Jurel for the sixth batting position, depending on whether the team prefers an all-rounder or a specialist batsman for the series opener at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Jurel's Strong Case for Selection as Specialist Batter
Parthiv Patel strongly backed Dhruv Jurel's credentials for the number six position, citing his consistent run-scoring record. The veteran noted that Jurel has delivered whenever given opportunities, including performances against West Indies and in other assignments. Patel acknowledged that Nitish Kumar Reddy could be preferred if bowling-friendly conditions at Eden Gardens require a third seamer alongside two pacers and three spinners. However, if the team management opts for a pure batsman instead of an all-rounder, Jurel deserves the spot. Patel reminded that this management has previously shown confidence in Jurel. Currently playing for India A against South Africa A, Jurel has scored centuries in both innings, significantly strengthening his selection prospects for the senior team's Test series.
