Trade Discussions Between Chennai and Rajasthan

2 min read

The 2026 Indian Premier League trade window may see a major player exchange between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals. The two franchises are discussing a possible swap involving India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson and CSK all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. Samson, who has captained Rajasthan since 2021, has reportedly requested his release before the upcoming auction. His relationship with the franchise became strained after the team released Jos Buttler ahead of the 2024 auction. Rajasthan owner Manoj Badale has approached multiple teams, including Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Lucknow Super Giants. However, Chennai remains the most serious contender. The franchise will hold retention meetings on November 10 and 11, with inputs from MS Dhoni and coach Stephen Fleming. CSK must finalize its retention list by November 15, before the IPL 2026 mega auction in December.

Trade Discussions Between Chennai and Rajasthan

Rajasthan Royals have demanded either Ravindra Jadeja or Ruturaj Gaikwad in exchange for Samson. Chennai's management, led by CEO Kasi Viswanathan and head coach Stephen Fleming, is reluctant to release either player. Despite initial hesitation, CSK has re-engaged with Rajasthan to explore possibilities. Shivam Dube was also mentioned in early talks, but Chennai is expected to reject his release, viewing him as essential for their T20 setup. Meanwhile, Rajasthan owner Manoj Badale, currently in Mumbai, continues discussions with other franchises. Delhi Capitals have shown interest, though Rajasthan's demand for Tristan Stubbs plus an uncapped Indian player has complicated negotiations. Samson, a consistent white-ball performer, has been with Rajasthan since the 2018 mega-auction.
