A father and son from Timor-Leste made cricket history by becoming the first pair to play together in an international men's match. Suhail Sattar, aged 50, and his 17-year-old son Yahya Suhail took the field during their country's debut international fixture against Indonesia in Bali on November 6, 2025. The milestone occurred during Timor-Leste's first appearance in the Indonesia Tri-nation T20I Series, which also featured Myanmar. Although the historic moment was celebrated, Timor-Leste faced a difficult introduction to international cricket. The team managed only 61 runs in their opening match and suffered a 10-wicket loss. Their next game against Myanmar saw them bowled out for just 32 runs. While this father-son combination is unprecedented in men's international cricket, a mother-daughter duo from Switzerland had previously played together in women's T20Is earlier in the year.
Historic Debut Amid Tough Losses
During their debut match, Suhail Sattar scored 14 runs off 15 balls, while Yahya hit a six on his only delivery before getting out. Timor-Leste posted just 61 runs and lost by 10 wickets to Indonesia. Their second match against Myanmar proved even more difficult, with the team dismissed for only 32 runs. Sattar was out without scoring, and Yahya added two runs. Despite these challenging results, the father-son pair attracted widespread attention. While they are the first in men's international cricket to achieve this, similar family pairings have occurred before. Switzerland's Metty Fernandes and her daughter Naina Metty Saju played six women's T20Is together earlier in 2025.
