Parth Pawar, son of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and grand-nephew of political veteran Sharad Pawar, is currently embroiled in a controversy surrounding a Pune land transaction. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has formed an inquiry committee led by additional chief secretary Vikas Kharge to investigate allegations of corruption in a deal involving a company linked to Parth. The case relates to a 40-acre land parcel in Pune's Mundhwa area, allegedly sold for Rs 300 crore despite being valued at Rs 1,800 crore, along with a stamp duty waiver of Rs 21 crore. Parth made his political debut in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Maval constituency but lost by over two lakh votes. Since then, he has remained politically active, though his outspoken statements on contentious issues have repeatedly sparked controversy within his own family and party circles.

Controversial Land Deal Under Probe
The controversy centers on a 2022 land transaction in Pune's Mundhwa area near Koregaon Park. The 40-acre property, reportedly valued at Rs 1,800 crore, was allegedly sold to Amedea Enterprises LLP, where Parth Pawar is a partner, for just Rs 300 crore. Additionally, a stamp duty waiver of Rs 21 crore was granted. Opposition leaders have criticized the deal, alleging misuse of political influence and violation of land-transfer laws. The Pune district collector has stated that the sale deed would be cancelled. Parth maintains he did nothing wrong and insists the transaction was legally compliant. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has denied any involvement in the matter.
Political Journey and Provocative Statements
Parth entered politics during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, contesting from Maval constituency with backing from his father and the undivided NCP. Sharad Pawar withdrew his candidacy to accommodate his grand-nephew. Despite strong party support, Parth lost by over two lakh votes to Shiv Sena's Shrirang Barne. He has since worked to rebuild grassroots support in Maval and Pimpri-Chinchwad. His frequent online posts have stirred controversy, including advocating for a CBI inquiry into actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death in July 2020 and supporting the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, which drew a sharp rebuke from Sharad Pawar who called his remarks immature. Last year, his meeting with gangster Gajanan Marne also triggered criticism.
