The first phase of voting for the Bihar Legislative Assembly elections concluded on November 5, 2025. Polling took place across 121 seats spread over 18 districts in the state. Voting started at 7 in the morning and continued until 6 in the evening. The turnout recorded was 64.46 percent, which marks a significant increase compared to the previous assembly election. In 2020, the first phase had recorded only 56.9 percent voter participation. This year, the increase stands at 7.50 percent higher than last time. The Bihar assembly has a total of 243 seats, and the entire election is being conducted in two phases. Key districts that participated in this phase include Patna, Darbhanga, Madhepura, Saharsa, Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj, and Siwan. The second phase of voting is scheduled to follow shortly.

Higher Voter Participation Compared to 2020

The first phase witnessed a voter turnout of 64.46 percent, which is notably higher than the 2020 elections. Five years ago, the same phase had recorded only 56.9 percent voting. This represents an increase of 7.50 percent over the previous election cycle. Polling was conducted peacefully from 7 in the morning till 6 in the evening across all 121 constituencies. The 18 districts that went to polls included major areas like Patna, Darbhanga, Madhepura, Saharsa, Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj, and Siwan. The higher participation reflects increased public interest and engagement in the democratic process. The entire Bihar assembly election is being held in two phases covering all 243 seats.
