2 min read

Filmmaker Karan Johar recently opened up about experiencing loneliness despite being a single parent to twins Yash and Roohi. Speaking on a podcast with Sania Mirza, he shared how the absence of a romantic partner affects him during significant moments. He recalled receiving his National Award call and having no one special to celebrate with. When asked about his plus one at the awards ceremony in Delhi, he had nobody to bring. Karan explained that loneliness strikes hardest during high points rather than low ones, when family and friends are present. He especially feels isolated during occasions like New Year's Eve when others celebrate with partners. Despite these feelings, he remains hopeful about finding love someday. Karan won the National Award this year for Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani in the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment category, marking his directorial return after nine years.

Karan revealed that while he has family, friends, and two cousin sisters close to him, he feels most alone during successful moments. Quoting a popular song, he explained that loneliness strikes harder during highs than lows. When he received the call about his National Award, he felt uncertain about whom to celebrate with. He needed someone to hold hands with and receive encouragement from. At the awards ceremony, officials asked about his plus one, but his mother was unwell and his children too young to attend. He admitted eating meals in his room to avoid the dining table's emptiness. During New Year's Eve, when couples celebrate together, his loneliness intensifies, prompting him to rant to single friends while avoiding couples altogether.
