The Gujarat Giants have announced their retention list for the Women's Premier League 2026, choosing to keep only two players from their previous squad. Despite having the option to retain up to five players, the franchise has decided to move forward with Australian cricketers Ashleigh Gardner and Beth Mooney. This decision marks a significant squad overhaul for the team, which has struggled to find success in all three seasons played so far. Notable players like Harleen Deol, Deandra Dottin, and Phoebe Litchfield have been released and will enter the auction pool. The upcoming WPL 2026 auction is scheduled for November 27 in New Delhi. With only two retentions, Gujarat Giants will have INR 9.0 crore remaining in their purse to rebuild their squad at the auction table, as they aim to improve their performance in the upcoming season.

Retained Players and Remaining Budget
Gujarat Giants have retained Ashleigh Gardner for INR 3.5 crore and Beth Mooney for INR 2.5 crore, both being overseas players. According to WPL regulations, each franchise can retain a maximum of five players, including up to two overseas internationals. If all five slots are used, at least one must be an uncapped Indian player earning a minimum of INR 50 lakh. By retaining just two players, the Gujarat-based team will have INR 9.0 crore available for the auction. This strategic decision reflects the franchise's intent to completely revamp their squad after disappointing performances in previous seasons, giving them flexibility to build a fresh team combination.
