Recently, Deepika Padukone exited two major projects, Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit and Nag Ashwin's Kalki 2, reportedly after her demand for an eight-hour workday was not met. Deepika, a new mother to daughter Dua, wanted the schedule adjustment to spend more time with her child. The issue has sparked widespread debate across the film industry about working conditions and gender equity.
Time Caps Are Not New, Says Yami Gautam
Yami Gautam explained that flexible working hours have been a reality in the film industry for decades. She stated that numerous actors already work only eight hours daily, stick to five-day weeks, and refuse night shoots. These arrangements are decided beforehand through collaboration between the director, producer, and actor. Yami questioned why the issue became controversial when raised by a female actor. She emphasized that whether a woman works outside or manages a home, every mother is special and does her best for her child. Yami believes discussions about time limits are subjective and depend on mutual understanding among the production team, actors, and technicians, given the unique challenges of filmmaking.
