Three Separate Raids Seize Country Liquor and Arrest Smugglers

The Excise Department in Araria district conducted a major operation against alcohol smuggling along the India-Nepal border. Acting on directions from Excise Superintendent Niranjan Kumar Jha, teams carried out raids at three different locations and seized 68 litres of country liquor. The operation resulted in the arrest of three smugglers and confiscation of two motorcycles used in smuggling activities. Additionally, 16 individuals were arrested for consuming alcohol across various areas of the district. The coordinated action involved joint teams from the Excise Department and SSB (Sashastra Seema Bal) personnel at multiple border checkpoints including Kuadi, Fulkaha, and Narpatganj. The raids targeted illegal liquor trade routes from Nepal into Bihar. All arrested persons were presented before court. The department has warned that strict vigilance will continue against illegal alcohol trade and further investigations are underway.

The first raid was conducted near Dhata village on the India-Nepal border by a joint team from Kuchaha SSB and Kuadi Excise checkpoint. They seized 31.2 litres of country liquor loaded on a motorcycle, though the smuggler escaped from the spot. A case is being registered under the Excise Act. The second operation took place at Bela border in Basmatiya area, where Gautam Kumar Das from Refugee Colony was caught red-handed with 36.80 litres of Nepali country liquor. His motorcycle was also confiscated. The third raid in Narpatganj area near Bangali Tola led to the arrest of Sanjay Mandal and Sunil Mandal from Palasi village with one litre of liquor.
