Actor Celina Jaitly has approached the Delhi High Court seeking help to secure the release of her brother, retired Major Vikrant Kumar Jaitly, who has been detained in Abu Dhabi since September 6, 2024. Justice Sachin Datta heard the petition filed through advocate Raghav Kacker and directed the Ministry of External Affairs to appoint a nodal officer for coordinating communication between the family and UAE authorities. Vikrant, who retired from the armed forces in 2016, was running a cybersecurity firm in Dubai with his wife Charul. He was reportedly detained from a mall parking lot under unclear circumstances. After 22 days of no contact, Celina learned about the detention from his wife, who has since relocated to Bengaluru and stopped responding. The court has asked the government to submit a status report before the next hearing on December 4. Celina expressed hope and gratitude toward the Indian judiciary and government.

The Delhi High Court issued notice to the Ministry of External Affairs after hearing Celina Jaitly's petition. Justice Sachin Datta instructed officials to designate a nodal officer to facilitate communication between Vikrant's family and authorities in the UAE. Advocate Raghav Kacker explained that Vikrant was detained on September 6, 2024, while shopping with his wife Charul at Emirates Mall in Abu Dhabi. Two individuals allegedly detained him from the parking lot, and no official record has surfaced since. Celina tried contacting the consulate but received no response. Through a friend, Vikrant reached out to his sister for help. The court will review a government status report on December 4. Celina thanked the judiciary on Instagram and expressed faith in the government's commitment to supporting armed forces personnel.
