PAK vs SA 2025 update: key points for applicants

2 min read

South African middle-order batter Dewald Brevis will miss the three-match ODI series against Pakistan after sustaining a low-grade shoulder muscle strain during the third T20I. Cricket South Africa has not yet announced a replacement for him. Brevis will remain in Pakistan to undergo rehabilitation with the squad instead of returning home, as South Africa hopes he recovers in time for their upcoming all-format tour of India. His injury adds to South Africa's growing list of unavailable players, which already includes Kwena Maphaka and Anrich Nortje. The ODI squad is further weakened by the absence of rested all-format stars like Aiden Markram and Kagiso Rabada. Matthew Breetzke, who made his ODI debut earlier this year, is leading the depleted side. All three ODI matches are being played at Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad, with the series opener taking place on November 4.

Injury Depletes South African ODI Squad

Brevis joins Kwena Maphaka and Anrich Nortje on the injury list, severely weakening the 50-over squad. The team is already missing key all-format players such as Aiden Markram and Kagiso Rabada, who have been rested. Matthew Breetzke leads this depleted side and made his ODI debut only this year. Brevis has struggled during the Pakistan tour, managing just 54 runs in the second innings of the Lahore Test, with other scores of 0, 0, 9, 25, and 21. In his ODI career, he has accumulated 110 runs across six matches, with a highest score of 49 against Australia in Mackay in August. The second and third ODIs are scheduled for November 6 and November 8, before South Africa travels to India for the first Test on November 14.
