Lalu Prasad Yadav held his first election roadshow on Monday in Danapur for Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate Reetlal Yadav, who is currently in jail facing charges of demanding 50 lakh rupees as ransom. Since Reetlal cannot campaign, his 16-year-old daughter Shweta, a class 11 student, has taken charge of election activities. She joined Lalu's 15-kilometre roadshow from Digha to Khagaul, appealing to voters for her father. Shweta firmly believes her father has been framed by political opponents and is seeking justice. Despite her active role in campaigning, she insists she has no interest in politics and will never enter this field. She has paused her studies temporarily to support her father during this difficult time. The Danapur seat is considered a hotly contested constituency, with former MP Ramkripal Yadav representing NDA against Reetlal Yadav from the Grand Alliance.

Daughter Steps In To Campaign For Jailed Father
Shweta, studying in class 11, is campaigning door-to-door in Danapur constituency for her father Reetlal Yadav. She travels with RJD supporters and women volunteers who guide her through the process of seeking votes. During Lalu's roadshow, she stood atop a car, greeting people and requesting support. She told reporters that she dislikes politics and will never join it. Shweta explained that her father is going through a bad phase and has been trapped by rivals. She believes the charges are part of a conspiracy that began eight months ago. Despite the challenges, she remains confident that voters will deliver justice and her father will win by a large margin.
Ransom Case Lands Sitting MLA Behind Bars
Reetlal Yadav surrendered in Danapur court on 17 April 2025 after a case was filed against him at Khagaul police station. He is accused of demanding 50 lakh rupees as ransom from builder Kumar Gaurav and threatening him. Following surrender, he was sent to Beur jail for 14 days of judicial custody. About two months later, considering security concerns, authorities transferred him to the Special Central Jail in Bhagalpur. He is currently lodged in the high-security T-cell of the third block. Despite being in jail, Reetlal remains the RJD candidate from Danapur, a key seat in the Bihar Assembly elections.
