2 min read

On the last day of campaigning for the first phase of Bihar assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with women workers through a virtual programme called 'Mera Booth Sabse Majboot – Mahila Samvad'. He praised the extraordinary energy and dedication of women in ensuring BJP-NDA's victory. Modi expressed enthusiasm about speaking with mothers and sisters, acknowledging their active participation in strengthening democracy in Bihar. The NDA government has announced several major schemes for women, including the Mahila Rojgar Yojana offering financial assistance, domicile-based reservation in government jobs, reduced interest rates for Jeevika Didis, increased salaries for ASHA and Mamta workers, and enhanced social security pensions. Previously, on 4 October, Modi had virtually interacted with Bihar youth, reminding them of the 'jungle raj' era when the education system was destroyed and young people were forced to migrate from the state.

Government Announcements for Women's Welfare

The NDA government in Bihar introduced multiple welfare schemes for women. Under the Mahila Rojgar Yojana announced on 29 August, women aged 18 to 60 receive two lakh rupees to start their own businesses, with over one crore women already receiving initial installments of 10,000 rupees. On 8 July, the cabinet implemented a domicile policy reserving 35% government job seats exclusively for Bihar women. The government also reduced bank loan interest for Jeevika Didis from 10% to 7% and doubled salaries of 1.40 lakh Jeevika workers. ASHA workers now receive 3,000 rupees monthly instead of 1,000, while Mamta workers get 600 rupees per delivery. Social security pensions increased from 400 to 1,100 rupees monthly, benefiting widows, elderly citizens, and differently-abled persons.
