The legal drama Haq, starring Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam, faces legal trouble days before its scheduled November 7 theatrical release. The film is based on the landmark 1985 Shah Bano case, which dealt with women's rights and maintenance laws in India. Shah Bano's family has alleged that the filmmakers violated their privacy by using her life story without obtaining consent. Siddiqua Begum, Shah Bano's daughter, filed a petition in the Indore Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court seeking a stay on the film's release. The family claims several facts have been distorted and that their private matter has been commercialised. However, the producers argue the film is a fictional depiction inspired by the Supreme Court judgement and a book titled 'Bano, Bharat ki Beti', with a disclaimer clarifying the dramatisation. Directed by Suparn S Verma and produced by Junglee Pictures, the film also features Vartika Singh, Danish Husain, Sheeba Chadha, and Aseem Hattangady.

Family Files Petition Alleging Privacy Breach and Distortion
Siddiqua Begum, daughter of Shah Bano, filed a petition in the Madhya Pradesh High Court demanding a halt to Haq's release. Her lawyer, Tauseef Warsi, stated that the filmmakers failed to obtain consent before using Shah Bano's name or life story, which violates the right to privacy. Jubair Ahmad Khan, Shah Bano's grandson, expressed concerns that many facts in the teaser were distorted and that the family's private matter has been given a commercial angle without permission. He worried that audiences would believe the film portrays true events. The family had earlier sent a legal notice demanding an immediate stop to the film's publication, screening, promotion, or release, arguing consent is mandatory when depicting someone's personal life.
