RTE Admissions 2025 to begin from today, confirms Tamil Nadu government—check —

2 min read

The Tamil Nadu government has officially announced that admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act for the 2025–26 academic year will commence from October 6 to October 17, 2025. This follows the release of funds by the Union government under the Samagra Shiksha Scheme, ending earlier delays. The state had previously declined to implement the three-language policy in PM SHRI schools, leading to the withholding of ₹2,151 crore. Approximately 6,000 private schools will upload details of filled seats in entry-level classes, with 25% reserved under the RTE quota. Priority will be given to vulnerable groups including orphans, HIV-affected children, transgender children, children of scavengers, and children with disabilities. A special 10-day online admission window will regularize eligible children already admitted under the RTE quota, with a transparent random selection process if applications exceed available seats.

Admission Schedule and Process Details

The admission process begins on October 6, 2025, with the notification issuance. Schools must upload total filled seats by October 7, and the 25% RTE reserved seats will be identified on October 8. Eligible children's details, including Aadhaar number, date of birth, address, and income certificates, must be uploaded by October 9. Lists of eligible and ineligible applicants will be displayed on October 10 and 13, allowing parents to submit missing documents. The final list publishes on October 14. If applications exceed the quota, random selection occurs on October 16, with selected children tagged in the EMIS Portal by October 17, 2025.
