UNESCO Regional Office for South Asia and the Regional Institute of Education (RIE), National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), Bhubaneswar have joined hands to strengthen health and well-being integration in pre-service teacher education curriculum. A three-day workshop is taking place at RIE Bhubaneswar from October 29 to 31, 2025, gathering academicians, teacher educators from Odisha institutions, curriculum developers and experts. The workshop marks the first activity after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between UNESCO and RIE NCERT. Participants are developing supplementary materials and mapping health integration within the Integrated Teacher Education Programme. The initiative aligns with NEP 2020, SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 5 (Gender Equality). Teacher educators from 14 institutions across Odisha and other RIEs are engaged in creating guidelines to equip future teachers with knowledge and skills for fostering safe, inclusive, health-promoting learning environments.

Workshop Focus and Participation Details
Teacher educators from 14 Teacher Education Institutions of Odisha, RIE Bhubaneswar, RIE Mysuru, NERIE Shillong, and experts are participating in the workshop. Virtual attendance includes principals and teacher educators from Tagore Government College of Education in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri Agrasen Snatkottar Shiksha Mahavidyalaya in Jaipur, Rajasthan, and Institute for Education in Saraikela, Jharkhand. Participants are gaining hands-on experience in adapting School Health and Wellness Programme content for pre-service teacher education. The supplementary material will guide educators to promote emotional well-being, gender equality, digital safety, nutrition awareness, and interpersonal respect in classrooms. The collaboration aims to integrate physical, mental, and social well-being aspects into teacher education curricula for holistic learner development.
