The Uttar Pradesh government has begun examining the possibility of creating a new district from parts of Aligarh and Bulandshahr districts. This follows a demand by Rajveer Singh, son of former Chief Minister Kalyan Singh, who wants the new district to be called Kalyan Singh Nagar and include the Atrauli area, his father's birthplace. District Magistrates have been asked to conduct surveys and report to the State Revenue Department on feasibility. A similar proposal was considered during Kalyan Singh's terms as Chief Minister (1991-1992 and 1997-1999) but did not materialise. The survey will examine three blocks: Atrauli and Gangiri in Aligarh, and Dibai in Bulandshahr. While officials describe this as a preliminary evaluation, the timing ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections has sparked political speculation, especially given Kalyan Singh's influence among the Lodh community across western Uttar Pradesh and Bundelkhand.

Political and Administrative Considerations Behind the Survey
Rajveer Singh, a former Etah MP, insists the proposal should not be viewed politically, emphasizing benefits for locals since Atrauli sits at the junction of three districts—Aligarh, Bulandshahr, and Kasganj. He believes a new district would bring fresh funding and administrative officers, simplifying official work for residents. However, with Assembly elections scheduled for 2027, the move is being interpreted through a political lens. Kalyan Singh remains a towering figure among the Lodh community, influential in around 70 Assembly constituencies in western Uttar Pradesh and Bundelkhand. His grandson, Sandeep Singh, currently serves as a minister in the Yogi Adityanath government. Officials maintain the exercise is routine and at a very early stage.
