The United Nations reported a sharp rise in violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians during the olive harvest in the West Bank. October 2025 is on track to be the most violent month since 2013. Attacks have happened near Nablus, Ramallah, Bethlehem, and other towns. Three Palestinian farmers were wounded when settlers opened fire while they were harvesting olives. Over 126 attacks and damage to more than 4,000 olive trees have been recorded this season. The olive harvest is vital for many Palestinian families. UN officials said these attacks threaten their way of life and called for safe access to farmland. The violence is linked to the expansion of illegal Israeli settlements and is seen as part of a broader strategy to control the West Bank. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s government has increased settlement activity despite international criticism. The UN and human rights groups warn that Israeli security forces sometimes support or allow settler violence. This situation deepens tensions in the occupied West Bank and affects Palestinian livelihoods. (Updated 2 Nov 2025, 00:09 IST; source: link)
