Bihar Polls: BJP, Congress Leave Most SC Seats to AlliesSaralnama

38 SC-reserved seats are up for grabs in Bihar's upcoming two-phase elections. BJP is contesting only 11 of these seats, while its allies JD(U), LJP(RV), and HAM(S) are contesting 15, 8, and 4 seats respectively. In the opposition Mahagathbandhan, Congress is fielding candidates in 11 SC seats, while RJD leads with 20. CPI(M-L)L, CPI, and VIP are contesting the rest. This pattern of major parties leaving SC seats to regional allies was also seen in the 2020 Assembly polls. NDA won 21 SC seats in 2020, while Mahagathbandhan won 17. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, NDA performed strongly in Bihar's SC segments. Party spokespersons attribute this to welfare schemes and caste-based voting patterns in the state.
