The National Tiger Conservation Authority has released ₹4 crore to prepare Nauradehi Sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh as a new home for cheetahs. Three forest ranges – Singhpur, Mohli, and Jhapa – are considered best for cheetahs. Four quarantine enclosures and one soft release enclosure will be built. Cheetahs may be moved to Nauradehi by 2026, either from Africa or Kuno-born cubs. The sanctuary can house 50-70 cheetahs. Thirteen villages will be relocated, with ₹150 crore requested for rehabilitation. Currently, India has 31 cheetahs – 12 adults and 19 cubs.
