The Reserve Bank of India's gold reserves crossed 880.18 metric tons (8,80,180 kg) in the first six months of 2025-26. As of, the total value of gold was ₹8.4 lakh crore. RBI added 600 kg of gold to its stock in these six months, purchasing 200 kg in September and 400 kg in June. The latest RBI report reveals that global and geopolitical uncertainties have led to increased gold demand worldwide. Central banks and investors are buying gold as a safe asset, driving up prices in global and domestic markets.
