Locals tried to douse the flames by pouring water from rooftops before firefighters arrived. The fire is believed to have been caused by a firecracker spark. Local councillor Madanmohan Tiwari said the scrap yard was on an empty plot he had given to the dealer. While no casualties were reported, the fire destroyed goods worth lakhs of rupees.
