Ancient Mahalakshmi Temple in Chhattisgarh Built on Sri YantraSaralnama

The ancient Mahalakshmi Temple in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, was built on a Sri Yantra design. Legend says the Pandavas established the idol during the Dwapara Yuga. The goddess sits on an eight-petaled lotus. Archaeologists date the temple to over 800 years old. Special prayers are held during Diwali for wealth and prosperity. Located 25 km from Bilaspur in Ratanpur, the temple is linked to stories of Lord Ram and the Pandavas. Priests say the Pandavas performed an Ashwamedha Yagya here to atone for killing Kichaka. The Kalchuri king Ratnadeva III's minister built the temple in 1179 CE during a famine. (Updated 20 Oct 2025, 22:00 IST; source: link)
