Apte batted for most of the fourth day and until lunch on the fifth day. Despite his brilliant innings, he was dropped from the team after playing only 7 Tests. He scored 542 runs in his short Test career. Apte continued to play for Bombay (now Mumbai) as a strong batter and captain for many years after his international career ended.
