Five young Indian cricketers scored Test centuries early in their careers. Madhav Apte hit an unbeaten 163 against West Indies in Bridgetown. He was 20 years old at the time. Apte batted for most of the fourth day and until lunch on the fifth day. Despite his brilliant innings, he was dropped from the team after playing only 7 Tests. He scored 542 runs in his short Test career. Apte continued to play for Bombay (now Mumbai) as a strong batter and captain for many years after his international career ended.
