Venezuela has accused the US of military harassment after detecting five F-35 fighter jets near its Caribbean coast. The Venezuelan Defence Minister said the planes were spotted 75 km from the shore and called the presence a threat to national security. He urged the US Defense Secretary to stop what he called a warmongering posture. Venezuela said the jets violated international law and endangered civil aviation. The US Pentagon has not commented yet. This comes amid rising tensions after the US sent military forces to the Caribbean, including air attacks on boats near Venezuela accused of drug trafficking. Venezuela’s President Maduro called the US actions a covert attempt to change his government. So far, 14 people have died in US attacks off Venezuela’s coast.
