The Supreme Court ended exemptions for commercial vehicles carrying essential goods from paying environment fees in Delhi. From now, trucks carrying vegetables, fruits, milk, grains, eggs, poultry, ice, and salt will pay the fee. Empty or partially loaded trucks must also pay. This will give Delhi's Environment Department ₹100 crore extra yearly revenue, up from ₹120 crore now. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) won't need to check vehicles, reducing arguments with drivers. The new rule will ease traffic jams at checkpoints, lower pollution from idling trucks, and provide funds for anti-pollution measures in Delhi. (Updated 3 Oct 2025, 02:49 IST; source: link)
