Waste Piles Up at Indirapuram Crematorium, Residents Urge GMC to Clean Site

September 28, 2025, Ghaziabad: Residents of Indirapuram have raised serious concerns over deteriorating conditions at the Moksha Dwar crematorium in Shakti Khand 4, urging the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) to immediately address waste accumulation and hygiene issues at the site.

Dr Sunil Vaid, a local resident, wrote to GMC’s chief engineer describing how the crematorium has turned into an area littered with debris and overrun by stray animals. He said a 400-metre stretch near the site now takes up to 30 minutes to cross due to heavy traffic and excessive litter.

“What should have been a solemn farewell turned into a distressing ordeal, exacerbated by a filthy environment and severe traffic congestion,” Dr Vaid stated. He pointed out the contrast between the crematorium’s previously maintained green space and its current neglected state.

The complaints come during preparations for Swachhta Pakhwada, the nationwide cleanliness drive scheduled from September 17 to October 2, 2025. Dr Vaid urged GMC to include Moksha Dwar in their cleanliness initiatives, emphasizing urgent repair work, road cleaning, and green belt maintenance.

Mamta Goel, resident of Aditya Megacity Indirapuram, echoed these concerns. “A dignified environment for those passing through the crematorium is urgently required,” Goel said.

Dr Vaid noted that with Indirapuram’s rising population, both government intervention and support from surrounding residential societies are needed to restore the crematorium’s environment. He also highlighted growing health risks from diseases like dengue and malaria due to poor sanitation at the site.
