September 29, 2025, Noida: The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) has informed the National Green Tribunal (NGT) that over 60% of villages under its jurisdiction do not have a sewer system. The authority revealed that waste management in these areas is currently being handled through de-sludging operations using 35 specialized vehicles.
In an affidavit submitted to the tribunal, GNIDA stated that out of 124 villages in its command area, only 115 were identified as requiring sewer management infrastructure. While 46 villages are connected to sewage treatment plants (STPs), complete household connections have been achieved in just 25 villages, with work underway in 21 additional villages.
The NGT reviewed the case on September 18 while examining a petition seeking directives for local authorities to implement proper systems to prevent open drains and unsanitary conditions. The tribunal allowed GNIDA to submit a fresh affidavit detailing sewer line connections and initiatives to ensure proper sewage disposal.
Petitioner Pradeep Kumar, appearing before the tribunal, sought permission to amend the village list for better identification of areas facing critical situations. He highlighted that the lack of proper sewer infrastructure is causing severe health hazards for residents in affected villages.
