Ayush Education 2025: Ayurveda to Be Integrated into School and College Curriculum

2 min read

New Delhi, September 28 – The Union Government is preparing to introduce Ayurveda in school and higher education curricula, aiming to connect students with India’s tradition of holistic health.

Union Ayush Minister Prataprao Jadhav confirmed that the NCERT and UGC are jointly developing course modules to integrate Ayurveda into the education system. Officials said the initiative will ensure that the next generation is exposed to Indian knowledge systems alongside modern learning.

Some states, including Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh, have already incorporated Indian knowledge traditions into their education frameworks. The Centre now plans a nationwide rollout.

The minister underlined that Ayurveda’s global recognition will expand through evidence-based research and clinical trials. The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) and partner institutions are conducting studies, while standards are being developed in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO).

Jadhav also stressed there is no competition between Ayurveda and allopathy, calling both complementary. Through initiatives like the National Ayush Mission and Ayush Grid, the government is working towards a unified healthcare model.

To strengthen health access, new Ayush Health Centres and medicinal gardens are being set up, particularly in rural and remote areas. Officials said this will expand primary healthcare reach and create employment for Ayush practitioners.

In the past decade, India has positioned Ayurveda and Yoga on the global stage through International Yoga Day, WHO’s Global Centre for Traditional Medicine, and multiple international MoUs. The ministry said the priority is balanced development, combining traditional systems with modern research and education reforms.
