Gangtok | September 26, 2025 (Saralnama News): In a significant development, Sikkim will soon have its own NCC Group Headquarters, marking a new chapter for youth training and discipline in the state.

During a courtesy call at Raj Bhavan today, Major General A.P.S. Chahal, SM, Additional Director General of NCC (Sikkim & West Bengal), informed Governor Om Prakash Mathur about the establishment. Until now, the NCC in Sikkim operated under a joint command with West Bengal, but the new independent HQ will give the state focused attention.

Officials also discussed the formation of a new NCC battalion in Sikkim, aimed at providing more opportunities for young people to serve the nation through structured training. This expansion is expected to boost cadet participation in schools and colleges across the state.

The Governor praised Sikkim’s cadets, highlighting their consistent national-level achievements that have brought pride to the state. He stressed that NCC instills values of discipline, leadership, and patriotism among students, preparing them for future responsibilities.

Governor Mathur also echoed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of expanding the strength of NCC cadets nationwide to 25 lakh, ensuring that more young Indians contribute to nation-building. He urged schools and colleges in Sikkim to increase their enrollment of cadets in line with this vision.

This decision is set to make Sikkim a stronger hub for NCC activities, empowering local youth with greater exposure, training, and opportunities.
