2 min read

New Delhi, September 25: Agni-Prime Missile Test 2025: India has successfully test-fired the Agni-Prime missile with a range of 2,000 km from a rail-based mobile launcher system, demonstrating its capability to deploy the missile across the country’s vast railway network. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), in collaboration with the Strategic Forces Command (SFC), carried out the “successful” launch of intermediate range Agni-Prime missile under a full operational scenario on Wednesday. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said the test puts India in the group of select nations having capability to launch such weapon systems from rail networks.

The “first-of-its-kind” launch carried out from specially designed rail-based mobile launcher has the capability to move on rail network without any pre-conditions and allows users to have cross country mobility and launch within a short reaction time. The missile trajectory was tracked by various ground stations and it was a textbook launch meeting all mission objectives. Scroll down for complete information on Agni-Prime Missile Test 2025, including technical specifications, strategic advantages and operational capabilities.

Agni-Prime Strategic Advantages 2025:

With nearly 70,000 km of railway tracks, India’s vast network offers unmatched cross-country mobility for deploying the missile system, making it far more versatile compared to road-based launchers. The rail-based system means missiles can be transported and launched even from remote regions where road access is limited.

The presence of train tunnels also allows the military to conceal missiles from enemy satellites until the moment of launch, increasing survivability during conflict scenarios. Rail-based mobile missile system enhances strategic value by enabling launches from mobile platforms disguised as ordinary trains, making it harder for adversaries to track and neutralize India’s missile assets.
