Noida , September 21, 2025: An illegal garbage dump in Sector 75 has become a breeding ground for disease-carrying mosquitoes, with residents reporting escalating health issues as the Noida Authority fails to act on repeated complaints. The waste pile, accumulating for several months, has created stagnant water pools around decomposing organic matter – ideal conditions for dengue, malaria and chikungunya vectors.

“My 8-year-old daughter has developed a persistent cough and we’ve been forced to stop outdoor activities for children. Families are keeping windows shut even during hot weather because of the stench,” said Neha Gupta, a resident of Society .

Local pediatricians have documented a 30% increase in respiratory complaints among children since the illegal dumping began. Environmental scientists warn of groundwater contamination from toxic leachate seeping into underground water sources.

Dr Rajesh Verma, a public health expert, described the situation as a “ticking time bomb” that could trigger vector-borne disease outbreaks. “The combination of organic waste, stagnant water and humidity creates perfect conditions for disease transmission. Immediate intervention is critical to prevent a health emergency,” he warned.

Authority inaction despite repeated complaints

The Society RWA claims to have submitted multiple written complaints, photographs and reminders to the Noida Authority over several months, but alleges no concrete action has been taken.

“We have exhausted all formal channels of complaint. The authority’s failure to enforce the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016, and Environment Protection Act, 1986, amounts to gross negligence,” said an Society representative.

The residents have now escalated the matter as a public health emergency, demanding immediate clearance of the garbage dump, penalties for illegal dumpers, and implementation of a robust waste management system with regular monitoring.

Gupta, who wrote to the Noida Authority CEO on Friday, recalled that earlier, sanitation officials used to conduct regular sector visits to ensure compliance, but that practice has stopped. “Officials, contractors and waste management companies must coordinate immediate action. Only then can this health crisis be resolved. Action must be taken against negligent agencies,” she said.

When contacted, Noida Authority officials did not provide a timeline for cleanup or detail preventive measures. Some garbage was reportedly cleared from patches of Sector 75 on Saturday, but residents say the core problem of systematic waste management and illegal dumping remains unaddressed.
