Colombian Soldiers Released from Rural VillageSaralnama

45 Colombian soldiers were released from El Tambo village in rural southwest Colombia. About 600 civilians had blocked the soldiers, who were on an anti-drug patrol. President Gustavo Petro said all military personnel were freed safely. The government blames such incidents on rebel groups that rejected the 2016 peace deal with FARC. This is the fifth such event this year. Armed groups often pressure locals in coca-growing areas to block army patrols. The region has a history of conflict, with civilians sometimes distrusting the army. Defence Minister Pedro Sanchez stated those responsible for holding the soldiers will face legal action.
